History
Personality:
When Kairi was younger, before turning up at Destiny Island, Kairi appears to be a kind young girl. This kindness can be shown through her action of being thankful to Aqua for helping her by giving her some flowers she picked before being chased by Unversed. She also is friendly from a young age, as she is shown to be able to talk to people she doesn't know easily, so she doesn't find talking to someone and making friends hard at all.
She also can be courageous when the need arises for it, as shown when Axel was trying to take her away at Destiny Island and a portal of darkness opened behind her, instead of letting herself be willingly or be forced into going with him, she went for the other portal with no idea of what could happen, or even where she will arrive at from the other side of it. Along with this she is one to have noticed Riku for whom was when he looked like Xehanort's Heartless, this could show that she knows her best friends well, and could tell who they are no matter what kind of form they could take. Another example of this could be when Sora became a heartless. She knew it was him and protected him, which is what turned him back to his normal self. It can be noted that out of her two friends she does seems closer to Sora due to various reasons. One being that her heart did once stay inside Sora's for pretty much a big chunk of the first game.
When it comes to her friends, she would do anything for them, even if it just means waiting for them if they said to. Though with this waiting it does make her slightly more distant from others for a while, but when they do return she usually reverts to her cheerful and happy self. But as noted Kairi has said herself that she hopes to be able to fight alongside them someday as an equal rather than having to wait behind the scenes.
Since her arrival on Destiny Island's Kairi never once questioned where she was from, unlike her friends who wanted to know where she was originally from, but she herself was not at all interested enough to find out. She did not mind the fact she doesn't remember, instead she liked where she was now, with friends she knows. Give her a chance and she is willing to help others, especially her friends. It's true she is not so much of a fighter since she lacks in experience, but she can hold her own if you give her a weapon to fight with.
Kairi also has a knack of being able to go head first into trouble if she sees someone she is close to in trouble as well. Like during the second game, Kairi saw Sora in trouble and jumped in to at least try to help, but ends getting jumped on by Heartless and had to be helped herself. This shows that she can go head first in to trouble without so much thinking about her own safety, or the fact she doesn't really have any weapon to help her.
She also can be but is not shown as much as the rest of her personality competitive herself as well as somewhat supports what she assumed to be an innocent rivalry between Riku and Sora, after all, she was first shown in the race getting them ready then running on ahead herself first. It can be shown one other time that she enjoys this kind of thing from time to time. She can also be a little bit of a joker as noted when she as a joke said to Sora about taking the raft and leaving Riku behind, although it's not understood whether she actually was being serious or not.
All in all, Kairi is a nice, kind-hearted and caring young girl, who loves her friends very much and is willing if she can to fight by their side if she has to.
Like Sora and Riku, Kairi herself has the same ambition of wanting to see what life was like outside of Destiny Island, something that while it does happen, doesn't happen in the way they had originally planned. After she does finally see at least one world in her own body, many more while her heart was in Sora's in the first game she had returned back to the island in which she at one point had forgotten all about Sora. During this time she spent it standing out looking at the sea, although at the time she didn't understand the reason. She even went as far as to send a note, being hopeful that even if it was just a simple message in a bottle, it will reach it's destination.
By the time we reach the end of the second game and even in the one scene she was in in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Kairi herself had changed. She herself had gone from someone who would have to stay and wait for her friends to return to her to a girl who is confident enough to try her best to be able to stand and fight alongside her friends instead. No longer does she have to stay and watch her friends from the sidelines, she knows that now is the first step to being able to be a part of it.
As a princess of heart, they are known to be pure of heart and Kairi, being one of them is no exception. It is shown in the various things that she does in the few scenes that we see her in. She is not afraid to do what she believes to be right and anything that could even be a tiny bit negative doesn't seem to bother her all that much. She can see through the darkness and see a person for who they really are and doesn't let the darkness get the best of her. On another note most of her action lean more towards her being selfless than selfish, adding to the pure of heart part of her.
Kairi, although it's not shown much, is kind of has a creative side to herself, being able to make the charm that she gave Sora in the first game and at the end of the second game he gave back. She called it a good luck charm.

The sound of the waves as they rolled up to the beach. Peaceful. Calming, the way the ocean should be. It was something Kairi liked doing from time to time, when she wanted to think over a few things for one. The island had always been the quietest place to go after all and watching the waves was always relaxing.
Kairi herself was sitting on the beach as she watched the ocean waves, her mind was on one thing in particular. What will happen next? She knew she had to go train, it was something she wanted as well. To be able to eventually stand with her friends. But she didn't know how long that would take. Would it be weeks, possibly months, maybe even longer. Whatever the case she was determined to do it.
"No matter how long it would take. I will do my best and train my hardest. It's what I want." She smiled to herself, hand extended and dipped into the shallow water that had rolled up to her feet. This was a feeling that she knew she wasn't going to have for a while.
"I should get going soon." She smiled slightly, hand moving out as she moved to stand up. She seemed more determined as she turned on her heels and soon headed off.
